While looking for the loot of his last robbery, he gets confused as replacement teacher - a great opportunity to take time and slowly dig out his treasure, who is hidden under the schools gym. Its the story of Zeki Müller, a convict who was just released of jail. When I watched it, I did not expect much, thought by the trailers it was stupid, but I have a knack for shitty teenager/school movies. #Suck me shakespeer netflix movieIt's one of William Shakespeare's greatest tragedies, a play with a name so synonymous with personal disaster that you can't even say it out loud in the theater world, simply referred to as "The Scottish Play" or "The Bard's Play".In Germany this was the "hot" autumn movie that everybody liked, the critics as well as the audience. Like many Shakespeare plays, Macbeth has proven to be incredibly flexible, having been staged in countless ways. In the '70s, Ian McKellan and Judi Dench played Macbeth and Lady Macbeth in an avant-garde-style production, while Alan Cumming played every part in an amazing one-man show, recasting the whole story as taking place in the mind of a mental patient. In film, the play has been adapted in straightforward adaptations, or as a muddy, dirty period piece, or as a Bollywood crime thriller. In light of Joel Coen's stylized take on The Tragedy of Macbeth with Denzel Washington and Frances McDormand in the lead roles, here's a look at the 7 best cinematic adaptations of Macbeth, ranked. RELATED: From 'Romeo + Juliet' to 'West Side Story': Comparing Classic vs. The basic story of Macbeth remains essentially unchanged throughout most of the filmed adaptations, and Rosemary’s Baby director Roman Polanski's version hews close to the text. Macbeth ( Jon Finch), the Thane (or lord) of Cawdor, wins a decisive battle for King Duncan ( Nicholas Selby), and as he and his friend Banquo ( Martin Shaw) return from the war, three witches prophesize that Macbeth will next be awarded Thane of Glamis, then become king. As for Banquo, he will “beget kings.” Macbeth and his wife Lady Macbeth ( Francesca Annis) collude to assassinate Duncan and take the throne. It all ends in tears, like any good tragedy. Polanski’s first film after the tragic death of his wife Sharon Tate at the hands of Charles Manson's deranged followers is one of the bloodiest, gloomiest Shakespeare adaptations ever made. Shot on location in some forbidding places around the British Isles, Polanski's Macbeth aimed for bleak period detail. It's a bloody, brooding film with strange surrealistic touches. Polanski includes an unnecessary amount of nudity for a Shakespeare film, especially in the scene where Macbeth palavers with the entire coven of witches. Still, this version has held up quite well, and likely represents the opposite end of the visual spectrum from what Coen and company have up their sleeve. The notion that all modern storytelling owes a blood debt to Shakespeare is best left for painfully earnest academic debate. Still, it’s a testament to the universality of many of the Bard’s plays that their plots are flexible enough to withstand a variety of settings. The 2004 Indian crime thriller Maqbool is one such example, with the late, great Bollywood star Irrfan Khan as the title character. The society is working to raise funds to stabilize the lighthouse structure and they have applied for a US Coast Guard Property Lease in order to begin plans for the restoration of the lighthouse. Apparently a number of missiles hit their target, as a massive fire broke out on the structure, completely gutting the interior of the tower and keepers dwelling of anything combustible.Īgain the light lay dormant until 1998 when Chris West formed Waugoshance Lighthouse Preservation Society. Terry Pepper’s Seeing the Light relates that the Waugoshance Light sat undisturbed by all but the forces of nature until the early 1940s when hotshot flyboys decided that the old lighthouse would make a perfect target for bombing practice during their military pilot training. He describes the social activity of County Donegal. Those that did not, however, experienced such pranks as having their chairs kicked out from underneath them when they fell asleep and even having coal shoveled into the boiler with no one around.Įventually the story, the loneliness of the light and the opening of the larger and more powerful White Shoals light a few miles to the north, closed the light in 1912 and left the ghost alone at Waugoshance. The author was originally a teacher and employed by Lord Leitrim, later becoming a lighthouse keeper. When his assistant finally gained his freedom, he searched high and low, but Herman was nowhere to be found and never seen again.įuture lightkeepers who knew the history refused the assignment. Legend has it that one night while drunk, he locked his assistant in the lantern room as a practical joke. In the 1800s, Waugoshaunce was kept by John Herman, a lighthouse keeper well known both for his penchant for practical jokes and for his heavy drinking on the job. Former keepers like the cigar-smoking Captain Townshend at Seul Choix Point and prankster John Herman at Waugoshance Shoal new Mackinaw City maintain their. The tale below is patched together from their excellent web site and also from the Waugoshance Lighthouse Preservation Society. The last Wednesday of every month is a “Weird Wednesday” on Absolute Michigan.Īccording to maritime historian Wes Oleszewski – via Haunted Great Lakes where you can read about their investigations and perhaps a second ghost at “Wobble Shanks” – the ghost story belonging to Waugoshance is always the first told by lighthouse enthusiasts and historians. No, I don’t mean bringing up the menu with a simple press of the Escape key, I mean a Baldur’s Gate style of pausing, which lets you make decisions and build facilities and enclosures, without a single in-game minute passing ticking away. The level of control and customisation here is astonishing and will certainly appeal to the more hardcore park-building fans, but it was too much for a more casual fan like myself. You can also raise and lower the terrain, fill up pools of water and even “paint” the terrain to specific animals’ biome requirements. Is the fence strong enough? Does it need to be electrified? Is it tall enough and does it have anti-climbing measures? You’ll also need to make sure there are viewing windows, then make sure you use the correct glass (some animals get anxious at the sight of humans, so one-way glass is needed). We all need that, quite frankly.Įven the building aspects of Planet Zoo are filled with options. #PLANET ZOO PS4 RELEASE DATE PLUS#Of course, you’ll need to make sure each species has its food and water, plus enrichment items such as scratching posts or food dispensing toys, and let’s not forget some cover under which they can sleep, or hide from the public if necessary. This requires selecting individual bushes, trees and bracken to remove, then finding out which plants are needed and placing everything by hand. Or perhaps it’s organising an enclosure’s vegetation, making sure it’s tailored to the animals within. Having to set up information boards and speakers, before specifically selecting what each board displays and what each speaker plays. Some will love this level of management detail, though. Hopefully that’s something to be fixed at a later date. And don’t get me started on the “objectives” panel, which constantly reappears whenever you complete anything on its checklist, despite repeatedly closing it. A lot is made of accessibility (and rightly so) but the text is far too small by default and enlarging it only results in enlarging every menu, to the point of barely being able to see what’s actually going on in the zoo because so much screen real-estate is taken up by oversized menu boxes. Building the enclosures is mostly simple, though the UI doesn’t always make it so. Going through tutorials (it has several and they’re all needed), it’s easy to be overwhelmed by the number of things that need doing when setting up your zoos. Those details are unfortunately what turned me off of Planet Zoo, I must admit. Planet Zoo isn’t going to be for everyone, thanks to its more in-depth management, but the more hardcore park-building fans will love taking care of the tiniest details. #PLANET ZOO PS4 RELEASE DATE PC#This isn’t Frontier’s first attempt at a zoo game, having co-developed the most recent Zoo Tycoon that was initially released on Xbox 360 and Xbox One (later updated and re-released on Xbox One and PC by Asobo), but it’s certainly its most complex. I would say that nobody wants to see animals escaping, but given the way people love to torture their Sims, I’m fairly sure those same people would deliberately attempt to set lions upon their zoo’s guests. Planet Zoo is quite similar to Frontier’s previous game, however, in that you’re still building an animal park and doing your best to keep those animals happy and, almost as importantly, contained. Except with present-day animals like monkeys and lions, not murderous dinosaurs from a bygone era. Frontier Developments knows it, as it follows up its movie-themed park-builder, Jurassic World Evolution, with another foray into the same genre. Since Pascal wasn't designed for Ray Tracing, this performance delta isn't surprising. It's important to note that the legend says "RTX Ops" as opposed to some sort of global metric or anything that applies to current games. At the end of the presentation last night Nvidia revealed a graph which depicts this performance delta. According to Nvidia the new GPUS are up to eight times faster than Pascal, but only in ray tracing. As you go up the product stack the cards can calculate more rays, it's as simple as that. A Gigaray is 1 billion light ray calculations. This feature is so paramount that aside from the expected clock speed and memory differences between the models, one of the biggest differences between models is the number of Gigarays each GPU can process. SERIOUS SAM 4 RAY TRACING PCIn the meantime, here's the games that currently plan to support DLSS, including Final Fantasy 15 - pictured above in a gorgeous 4K PC screenshot we took back on its original release.Spec Chart To recap, the big news with these GPUs is that the Turing architecture is dramatically different from Pascal, as there’s now hardware specifically designed for ray tracing and functions associated with it. We're going to test this out in detail once we have our hands on a card, and we'll report in on what this can do for frame rates. For those that have been struggling to hit 60fps in 4K even on high-end hardware like a GTX 1080Ti, this may present the solution that can help to smooth things over in those situations. Theoretically if this works as intended it could be a major development: by removing some of the strain of a typical AA solution, horsepower that can be used to achieve a higher frame rate. DLSS is basically an AI technology that's used to help with anti aliasing, using AI that's been taught through deep learning to predict the necessary adjustments to the image rather than processing every frame in full.īecause the AI is computing from reduced data and then using its knowledge to fill in the gaps, this essentially opens up more of the pipeline for other work while also keeping the aliasing on the image either equal to or even better than Temporal Anti Aliasing. SERIOUS SAM 4 RAY TRACING SERIESLess heavily promoted than ray tracing but perhaps more interesting to the frame rate focused, the Nvidia GeForce RTX series GPUs also support Deep Learning Super Sampling - otherwise known at DLSS. Players can look forward to 16 games that can make use of the new ray tracing technology currently, with more to come. The tech doesn't quite look perfect yet - in Battlefield there's a tendency for things to look a little too shiny, almost as though everything is wet - but there is absolutely no doubting that it looks significantly better in general and represents important progress. Shadow of the Tomb Raider stays true to its name and instead uses the tech to help create softer, more natural shadows. The results vary from game to game depending on its focus - in Battlefield and Assetto Corsa ray tracing is most obvious in impressive real-time reflections. Lighting in video games is almost universally fakery by necessity, and while ray tracing if of course also smoke and mirrors compared to reality it's also a far more realistic implementation - though one so taxing that these new GPUs have had to be built with ray tracing specifically in mind.Īt Gamescom, I experienced demos of Battlefield 5 and Shadow of the Tomb Raider with ray tracing enabled, and the impact of it is pretty easily noticeable - far more so in Battlefield, where the light cast by light from explosions and muzzle flashes bounce around the environment in a more realistic, natural manner. While the new RTX series products will also feature a general leap in power for gaming across the board, it's ray tracing that the company hopes will drive players to pick up the new cards. If you're not fully up to speed with it, real-time ray tracing is essentially what Nvidia is presenting as the next big leap in graphics technology. The specs slightly differ as you'd expect, but all three provide players with access to new real-time ray tracing and DLSS technology - and they could offer a big performance change for players. There's three cards to the range - the RTX 2080Ti, the RTX 2080 and the RTX 2070. Probably the most important all-new announcement this Gamescom week is that of the new GeForce RTX series of GPUs from Nvidia. With Nvidia stoking the hype for its new GeForce RTX series graphics cards, we finally have a list of the first games that'll support the new platform's impressive new features. Sandler is the main recipient of the cheap lesson in bravery. They sound like they’re trying to convince themselves of this fact, almost as though Sandler’s not-quite-successful streak of recent films ("That’s My Boy," "Jack and Jill") has caused self-confidence to dip amongst the Happy Madison brethren. The fellas also come to the conclusion that though they may be old, they’re still totally cool, fun and relevant. The bros (led by Taylor Lautner in a role that could have been funny if he wasn’t channeling one of Forks’ many forests) eventually return for the climactic ’80s party fight scene so the guys can learn a half-baked … no, quarter-baked lesson about standing up for yourself. Other potential subplots and arcs pop up – Sandler’s oldest son has eyes for the cute girl in school, an obsessive woman from Sandler’s past still loves him, Rock’s wife (Maya Rudolph) forgets their anniversary – but the script doesn’t develop them or tie them into a story as much as it just throws them into a Gravitron amusement park ride and tries to make sense of the puke-filled aftermath. It’d almost be impressive how little happens in "Grown Ups 2" if it wasn’t so insulting. Otherwise, it’s just the guys meandering around a small town, running into their real-world buddies (Dan Patrick, Shaq, pretty much every "SNL" alum whose film career flamed out) and causing desperately unfunny shenanigans. The closest thing we get is our four man-children (Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Chris Rock and David Spade) square off against a posse of aggressive frat bros. Jumping off three years from the first film, "Grown Ups 2" tries the daring storytelling approach of not having a story whatsoever. #SHAQ GROWN UPS 2 MOVIE#But anything an audience member goes to a movie for – story, entertainment, emotion, mere distraction – is nowhere to be found in "Grown Ups 2." #SHAQ GROWN UPS 2 SERIES#Sure, it’s technically a series of shots projected rapidly onto a screen to give the impression of a moving picture. So let me put my feelings toward "Grown Ups 2" as clearly and as upfront as possible.Īctually, I hesitate to use the word "movie" to describe this middling comedian mid-life crisis simulator. I have a habit of perhaps getting a bit long-winded with some of my reviews (if I’m going to say someone’s million-dollar creation is or is not worth $10 and two hours of your time, however, I feel the need to explain myself in full). |
